Roesia de Verdun (Dundalk – Ireland)

Roesia de Verdun, an extraordinary woman in 13th century Ireland, defied conventions as a warrior, nun, and castle builder. Her legend lives on through the infamous ‘murder window’ where she threw the architect whom she promised to marry in exchange for building her the castle. The three swallows of the town’s coat of arms combined with the roses symbolize her legacy in Dundalk.
